The Georgia Public Defender Council Central Office is hiring Independent Contractor Attorneys in Dekalb County. The Contractor must warrant that they have the requisite experience to handle all types of cases including murder. They must have been practicing law for at least 5 years, have tried at least 3 felony case to verdict in front of a jury, be available to respond to all communication from GPDC within 48 hours, as well as warrant they have the capacity and resources necessary to fulfill the contract. The Contractor must be an attorney licensed and in good standing with the bar in the State of Georgia. The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications.

Description of Duties: The Georgia Public Defender Council is seeking contractors to handle any level of felony cases. The Council assigns the cases (up to 100 with no more than 10 murder cases) and the contractor is paid a monthly fee over the course of a one-year period. The Contractor must be available to respond to all communication from GPDC within 48 hours. The Contractor must be able to file skeleton appellate motions to preserve their client’s rights to an appeal at the conclusion of trial.
