The Griffin Judicial Circuit is seeking to fill an Assistant Public Defender II or III position in Spalding County. Applicants must meet the qualifications and have the necessary skills to perform the job duties and responsibilities for the position. The primary responsibilities include assisting and/or handling indigent clients’ representation with criminal case(s) in Superior Court. This Assistant Public Defender will be responsible for preparing and presenting cases for trial and entering pleas, conducting legal research, preparing and presenting complex documents, pleading compilation, orders, etc. This Assistant Public Defender must demonstrate a mastery of litigation and possess jury trial experiences in felony cases. Experience in handling criminal cases, exceptional organization skills, and a strong commitment to indigent defense is preferred. To be considered for this position, candidates must possess a Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university, a license to practice law in the State of Georgia, and be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.

Description of Duties: The Assistant Public Defender II or III will be responsible for providing competent and zealous legal representation and advocacy to indigent clients. An individual holding this position may direct subordinate staff engaged in criminal defense, advise and counsel other attorneys as to the case management practices of handling their assigned cases; represent clients in cases including the most serious, legal complex, high-profile and/or significant cases assigned to the office. The position performs mid-to-experienced professional legal work and may assist in cases of routine complexity. Performs other related duties as required.
