The Georgia Capital Defender Division is seeking to hire a Criminal Investigator I representing indigent defendants in State Capital cases. Criminal Investigators play an integral part in the capital defense team’s work by providing expert guidance in the areas of mental health, cognitive impairments, developmental disabilities, impact of trauma, adverse childhood experiences, as well as other psychosocial factors. The Investigator must be accurate, precise, and pay close attention to detail. The candidate selected will be offering support to clients while guiding them through the legal process. Must possess the capacity to identify, collect, and review a vast array of records relating to the client’s life history. The Investigator must be able to organize and prioritize workload to manage cases efficiently, in addition to working collaboratively with a team of attorneys, experts, and the court. The ability to absorb and integrate large amounts of information is preferred.

Job Description and Requirements: A master’s degree in social work, psychology or a related field is preferred. Experience in criminal and /or capital litigation, and knowledge of social history and mental health issues is a plus. Applicants must hold a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel extensively throughout Georgia and out of state. Spanish-speaking also a plus.
