The Georgia Public Defender Council, Alternate Public Defender Northeast Region is seeking to fill an Assistant Public Defender IV position in Clarke County. Travel will be expected between the Western, Northern, and Piedmont Circuits. Applicants must meet the qualifications and have the necessary skills to perform the job duties and responsibilities of the position. Primary duties include representing indigent clients in all phases of criminal proceedings, including arraignment, pretrial hearings, trial preparation, plea negotiations, trial, and sentencing. The applicant must be an active member in good standing of the Georgia State Bar and possess substantial criminal defense experience. The selected candidate should have the capability to litigate Superior Court cases, including those with potential life sentences.

Description of Duties: The Assistant Public Defender IV will provide competent and zealous representation and advocacy to indigent clients. This position performs advanced levels of professional legal work and may assist in cases of routine complexity. The candidate may perform as a lead attorney and must be prepared to counsel other attorneys as to the case management practices of handling their assigned cases. Performs other related duties as required.
