The Middle Georgia Alternate Public Defender Division is seeking highly motivated Attorneys to join our Rapid Response Team. Based in Macon, Georgia, these roles require the ability to travel extensively across the Middle Georgia region, serving counties south of Atlanta and north of Albany. These positions are dedicated to providing zealous, high-quality legal representation to indigent clients facing criminal charges in Superior Court. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a profound commitment to the principles of indigent defense and the ability to manage a diverse, high-stakes caseload, including cases that carry potential life sentences. The candidate must have a strong commitment to indigent defense. A minimum of five (5) years of criminal defense experience is preferred. Applicants must possess a Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university, and a license to practice law in the State of Georgia. Candidates will be members in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia, as well as possess a valid driver’s license.

Description of Duties: The Assistant Public Defender III will be responsible for providing competent and zealous legal representation and advocacy to indigent clients. An individual holding this position will be responsible for managing the office’s most serious, legally complex, and high-profile cases. The successful candidate will lead the defense at all stages of criminal proceedings, from initial arraignments and preliminary hearings to pretrial motions and complex trials. Performs other related duties as required.
