Governor Kemp Commends Oconee Circuit Public Defender Steven Harrison
EASTMAN, GA (Dec. 20, 2024) – Governor Brian P. Kemp recognized and commended Steven Harrison, the Oconee Circuit Public Defender since 2003, for his outstanding dedication and service to the citizens of Georgia.
Governor Kemp’s official commendation praised Harrison’s professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to public service throughout his career with the Georgia Public Defender Council (GPDC).
Harrison was presented the Governor’s commendation by Georgia Public Defender Council Executive Director Omotayo Alli at a December 20, 2024, luncheon held in his honor in Eastman.
“It is my absolute honor to extend the heartfelt congratulations of the Council to Oconee Circuit Public Defender Steve Harrison in recognition of his 20 years of service to GPDC,” Alli said.
The commendation from Governor Kemp notes that the positive impact Harrison, 73, has made on countless individuals’ lives serves as a testament to his inspiring character and devotion to his family, community, and the State of Georgia.
Kemp’s recognition celebrates Harrison’s December 31, 2024, retirement and honors his significant contributions to his community.
“Steven Harrison has been an invaluable asset to the Oconee Circuit Public Defender’s office, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to ensuring justice for the citizens of Bleckley, Dodge, Montgomery, Pulaski, Telfair, and Wheeler counties.
“His extensive career as a municipal court judge, Special Assistant Attorney General, and public defender has been marked by an unwavering dedication to the pursuit of fairness and equality,” Governor Kemp wrote in an official commendation.
Governor Kemp’s commendation not only celebrates Harrison’s successful career but also serves as a reminder of the importance of selfless public service by Georgia’s public defenders.
“The state of Georgia is grateful for Steven Harrison’s dedication, and his legacy of service will continue to inspire future generations of public servants,” the Governor’s commendation stated.
