The Rockdale Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office is seeking a qualified attorney to serve as an Assistant Public Defender II. This position is responsible for providing legal representation to indigent clients in criminal matters before Superior, State, Magistrate, and Traffic Courts. Applicants must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to effectively perform the duties of the position. A strong commitment to indigent defense is essential. The successful candidate must be able to build and maintain trusting relationships with clients and communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals, including expert witnesses, interpreters, clients’ family members and support networks, probation officers, supervisors, government employees, court personnel, and members of the public. Felony trial experience is preferred. Candidates must be licensed to practice law in the State of Georgia and be a current member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.

Description of Duties: The Assistant Public Defender II provides competent, zealous, and client-centered legal representation to indigent individuals charged with criminal offenses. Responsibilities include advocating for clients at all stages of criminal proceedings, developing and presenting mitigation evidence, conducting legal research, preparing motions, negotiating case resolutions, and representing clients in court hearings and trials. The position may also assist with cases of routine to moderate complexity while maintaining a high standard of professional advocacy. Performs other related duties as required.
