The Augusta Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office is seeking to hire an Assistant Public Defender III for Richmond County. The primary responsibilities include representing indigent clients with criminal case(s) in Superior Courts at various stages of cases, including arraignments, preliminary and pretrial hearings, probation and sentencing, post-adjudication/post-conviction hearings, appeals or any related courtroom proceedings. Applicants must have the required skills to perform the responsibilities for the position. The candidate must possess two (2) or more years of experience as a practicing attorney and demonstrate the ability to perform as a lead attorney. Applicants must be licensed in the State of Georgia as well as be a current member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.

Description of Duties: The Assistant Public Defender III reviews discovery, receives and reviews various documentation, including, police reports, witness statements, and laboratory reports. Secures mitigating evidence for sentencing or restitution; reviews court orders and case plans; files related requests, motions, and appeals, and advocates for the client. Demonstrate strong commitment to indigent defense. Performs other related duties as required.
