ATLANTA —The Georgia Public Defender Council (GPDC) announces the appointment of Lee Prescott as Circuit Public Defender for the Augusta Circuit.

Prescott brings more than two decades of experience in public defense and legal leadership. Licensed to practice law in Georgia since 2003, he began his career in private practice before joining GPDC’s Law Office of the Public Defender for the Augusta Judicial Circuit in 2005. Over the course of his tenure, he has handled complex felony cases, led trial teams, and supervised attorneys and staff.

“Lee Prescott is a respected public defender with deep roots in the Augusta community and a strong record of leadership,” said GPDC Executive Director Omotayo B. AllI. “He brings the experience and judgment needed to lead the Augusta Circuit and deliver high-quality representation.”

In 2021, Prescott was appointed Chief Assistant Public Defender for the Columbia Judicial Circuit, where he helped establish a new public defender’s office while continuing to manage an active trial caseload.

Prescott earned his Juris Doctor from St. Thomas University School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Arts in History, with a minor in Political Science, from Augusta College. His professional development includes the GPDC Leadership Academy (Class of 2024) and leadership and defense management training through the National Association for Public Defense.

As Circuit Public Defender, Prescott will oversee the delivery of constitutionally required legal representation in the Augusta Circuit, comprised of Richmond and Burke counties, ensuring high-quality advocacy, strong leadership, and alignment with statewide public defense standards.

“I’m honored to serve the Augusta Circuit and the communities of Richmond and Burke counties,” Prescott said. “Public defense is about protecting constitutional rights and strengthening trust in the justice system, and I look forward to leading an office committed to that work every day.”
