Metro Capital Defender’s Office-Second Chair Attorney


The Metro Capital Defenders Office has an opening for a Second Chair Attorney in the Atlanta Office. The Atlanta Office handles indigent capital cases predominantly in north Georgia. The applicant must be willing and able to handle cases throughout Georgia, if necessary. All applicants must have a strong interest in death penalty defense and client-centered representation.

Second Chair applicants must meet all of the following requirements: Applicant must have 3-5 years of criminal trial experience and be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia. The Second Chair Attorney must have significant jury trial experience and have been lead or co-counsel in one or more murder cases or two serious violent felony cases to verdict. Applicant must be willing to relocate to the Metro Atlanta, Georgia, area. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel extensively.

Description of Duties: The Second Chair Attorney will provide competent and zealous representation and advocacy to indigent clients facing the death penalty. This position performs as a lead attorney, assigned to serious, high-profile, and significant felony cases. Performs other related duties as assigned.
