Georgia Capital Defender (Macon) – Second Chair Attorney


The Georgia Capital Defender Office has an opening for a capital trial attorney in the Macon office. We are accepting applications for Second Chair qualified individuals at this time.  The Macon Office handles indigent capital cases predominantly in middle Georgia, but applicant must be willing and able to handle cases throughout Georgia if necessary.  All applicants must have a strong interest in death penalty defense and client-centered representation.  Applicants are expected to provide zealous representation and advocacy to indigent defendants facing the death penalty.

Second Chair applicants must meet all of the following requirements: Applicant must have 3-5 years of criminal trial experience and be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia or able to waive into the Georgia Bar within a reasonable time period. The Second Chair Attorney must have significant jury trial experience and have been lead or co-counsel in one or more murder cases or two serious violent felony cases to verdict.  Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel extensively.

Description of Duties:  The Assistant Public Defender III will provide competent and zealous representation and advocacy to indigent clients.  This position performs as a lead attorney, assigned to serious, high-profile, and significant felony and appellate cases.
