The Georgia Capital Defender Office has an opening for a Second Chair Death Penalty Attorney in the Macon office. The Macon Office handles indigent capital cases predominantly in middle Georgia. The applicant must be willing and able to handle cases throughout Georgia if necessary. All applicants must have a strong interest in death penalty defense and client-centered representation. Applicants are expected to provide zealous representation and advocacy to indigent defendants facing the death penalty.
Second Chair applicants must meet all of the following requirements: Applicant must have 3-5 years of criminal trial experience and be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia or able to waive into the Georgia Bar within a reasonable time period. The Second Chair Attorney must have significant jury trial experience and have been lead or co-counsel in one or more murder cases or two serious violent felony cases to verdict. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel extensively.
