Georgia Capital Defender (Brunswick) – Second Chair Attorney


The Georgia Capital Defender Office has an opening for an attorney in the Brunswick Office. We are accepting applications for Second Chair qualified individuals at this time. The Atlanta Office handles indigent capital cases predominantly in north Georgia. The applicant must be willing and able to handle cases throughout Georgia, if necessary. All applicants must have a strong interest in death penalty defense and client-centered representation.

Second Chair applicants must meet all of the following requirements: Applicant must have 3-5 years of criminal trial experience and be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia or able to waive into the Georgia Bar within a reasonable time period. The Second Chair Attorney must have significant jury trial experience and have been lead or co-counsel in one or more murder cases or two serious violent felony cases to verdict. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel extensively.

Description of Duties: The Second Chair Attorney will provide competent and zealous representation and advocacy to indigent clients facing the death penalty. This position performs as a lead attorney, assigned to serious, high-profile, and significant felony cases. Performs other related duties as assigned.
