Central Office – Mitigation Specialist I (Gang/Rico Unit)


The Gang/Rico Unit of the Georgia Public Defender Council has an opening for a full-time Mitigation Investigator, representing indigent defendants at the pre-trial and trial level.  The Mitigation Investigator works with attorneys as part of a client team and is primarily responsible for conducting comprehensive fact-based investigations to develop and prepare a comprehensive mitigation packet for the attorneys.  The Mitigation Investigator identifies, locates, and interviews a variety of witnesses; identifies, collects, and reviews a vast array of records; identifies and analyzes issues in the case; prepares independent reports concerning the life history of the client, and assists attorneys in identifying appropriate expert witnesses, and preparing evidence and witnesses to present to an attorney, a judge, or to a jury.  The Mitigation Investigator must be able to organize and prioritize workload to manage cases efficiently; adjust to workload changes; work within a team and under stress to meet deadlines.
