Assistant Public Defender I

The Clayton Judicial Circuit Public Defender's Office is expanding and seeking to add additional Assistant Public Defender positions! This position is for an Assistant Public Defender I. 

Primary duties include representing indigent clients with criminal cases in Clayton County Superior Court. Candidates must have acquired a Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university and must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia. Candidates must also have the necessary skills to perform the job duties and responsibilities for the position. 

Assistant Public Defenders are expected to be able to effectively prepare cases for trial, zealously advocate and defend their client, seek and negotiate plea disposition and enter pleas in felony cases in Superior Court.  

Under supervision of senior trial attorneys, the chosen candidate will also be responsible for maintaining a challenging caseload, remaining current on emerging law, drafting legal briefs, assisting as necessary with appeals on their cases, etc. Being bilingual is an asset, but is not required.
